Write down the model number before entering the first market. At Huaqiangbei, “one like this” can lead to a long conversation about something that looks right but has the wrong specification.
A demonstration unit, a refurbished device, a component and a sealed retail product can sit on the same counter. Start by asking what is actually for sale; compare prices after that.

Decide whether you are browsing, buying or having a meeting
For a casual visit, one building and a short list of things to look at are enough. You do not need an appointment or an interpreter just to see whether the district interests you.
For a purchase, bring the model number and the features that matter: capacity, connector, language, region, power requirements or compatibility with something you already own. For a supplier meeting, add quantity, sample needs and the company's full address.
The Shenzhen government's description of Huaqiangbei makes clear that it is a district of multiple specialised markets and businesses. “Meet at Huaqiangbei” does not identify a building, floor or stall.
Keep a record you can take to the next counter
If you are comparing products, record the same fields each time:
- Exact model and version, not only the name on the display.
- New, used, refurbished or another stated condition.
- What is included in the box and what costs extra.
- Price for the quantity you are actually discussing.
- Receipt, warranty and return arrangements offered by that seller.
- The business name and how to reach the same counter again.
Ask permission before photographing a product or a person's paperwork. A photograph of the item without the stall details is a poor record when several floors look similar.
Test the function you intend to use
Ask the seller to demonstrate the functions you need, using a setup relevant to your own device where practical. If you cannot test something important, acknowledge the gap before deciding to buy rather than relying on a general “works everywhere.”
Do not assume a low price proves a bargain or proves a problem. Work out what is being offered. If the description, condition or seller's terms remain unclear, walking away is an option.
For batteries, wireless equipment or other restricted products, check the relevant airline, carrier and destination rules before purchase or shipment. This article does not establish that a particular item can be carried, imported or sold in your country.
Separate language assistance from supplier checks
Someone who can interpret a conversation may help you ask clearer questions. That does not make them an independent inspector or confirm that a seller is the manufacturer. If you require supplier verification, compliance advice or an inspection, arrange that as a separate professional task.
Before paying for support, agree on the duration, language pair, products and whether you need written notes. If the person introduces a seller, ask whether they receive a referral payment. Keep the commercial relationship clear instead of assuming everyone is paid only by you.
Find your way back before your phone fills with pictures
Save the building name in Chinese, its entrance and the floor or stall number. A map pin for the street is not enough to return to a small counter after lunch. Make the meeting point outside a specific entrance rather than somewhere inside an unnamed market.
If the day is for browsing, set a stopping point and leave without buying something just to justify the visit. If it is for a meeting, keep the conversation and your notes together before moving on.
For language help, a request on the Shenzhen city page can be short: “Two hours at this building, comparing these model numbers, with written notes on condition and warranty.” That gives the person something concrete to quote for. Payment details do not belong in the public request.
